Learn more about UPMC East.
Tamara Minton, MSN, MBA, RNCNO and Vice President, Patient Care Services
UPMC East opened in July 2012 to serve the health care needs of communities east of Pittsburgh. Nursing specialties include medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, ICU, emergency, and surgical services. A unique blend of community engagement coupled with high-tech innovation, UPMC East features SmartRoom® technology in all of its medical-surgical rooms.
Nurses at UPMC East are devoted to providing quality, compassionate care. They are supported by a multidisciplinary team, including hospitalist physician services, clinical pharmacists, nurse practitioners, and a diabetes educator. The Professional Practice Council has already had an impact on establishing a culture in which nurses are actively engaged and respected for their contributions to patient care. Evidence-based nursing care supports and directly impacts patient outcomes.
Nurses are committed to professional development and are supported by an administration that values the role of nursing and holds each nurse accountable for their practice. Substantial ongoing education is provided regularly to all nurses, including simulation education at the UPMC East WISER center, a satellite center of the Peter M. Winter Institute for Simulation, Education and Research.
UPMC East has a unique opportunity to combine the best of new technology and nursing talent. It started with a vision and commitment of service to our community.
